Views Pane

The Views pane is shared with other tabbed options including Properties, Favorites, Tags, Variable Explorer, and Templates. A high-level description of each tabbed option is provided in this section. But, if you would like to access more details, click on the desired link below.

By default, the Views pane is located beneath the Object Navigation pane. The Views and Properties tabs are displayed by default, where the Views tab is initially the active tab. That is why it is typically referred to as the Views pane, although is it shared by the other options stated above. The other options tabbed in this pane are accessed via the Open/Close Panes button in the lower right-hand corner of the UI.

The contents in the Views pane is primarily arranged by ActiveBatch roles, which consists of Administrators, Developers and Operators. When you select a view from the Views pane (for example, Operations, Map or Daily Activity), the Main window is activated. The Main window is multi-tabbed with the view name in the tab. While you can create multiple views (and tabs) based on your selections, only one view is active and can be in focus. Each tab is listed along the top of the Main window. If you select a view that is already tabbed in the Main window, it is replaced with the current selection because the default behavior is one tab per view.

Note: If you would like to force the creation of a new tab for an already tabbed view (i.e., the same view is tabbed more than once in the Main view), you must press the CTRL key when selecting the view.

The information presented in the Main window is based on the view that you select. For example, if you select the Daily Activity view, you will see a tab named Daily Activity added to the Main view, and under it you will see a list of Job and/or Plan instances for the specified date (in addition to the date filter, there is also an instance state filter).

The Properties tab (not to be confused with an object's Property Dialogs) is accessed via the Open/Close Panes UI option. However, it is open by default. It is tabbed alongside the Views tab, since this pane is shared. The Properties tab provides a quick and easy facility for viewing the most important properties of an object (currently selected in the tree) without having to issue a Properties operation. It also displays the properties of the currently selected instance, when you select an instance in one of the various Instances views.

The Favorites Pane is accessed via the Open/Close Panes UI option. By default, it is tabbed alongside any other open options that are accessed via this pane, since the pane is shared. The Favorites feature provides an easy way for you to quickly access your most critical and/or frequently accessed Plans and Jobs (and perhaps other object types) in the tree. Rather than always using the Object Navigation tree to access the desired object, the Favorites feature allows you to categorize and save your favorite objects (similar to the Favorites menu operation found on most web browsers). When you double-click on a favorite object in the Favorites tab, the system selects the object for you in the Object Navigation pane. This can be quite helpful for frequently accessed objects that are nested several levels deep in the tree, and/or when the tree consists of many objects.

The Variable Explorer Pane is accessed via the Open/Close Panes UI option. By default, it is tabbed alongside any other open options that are accessed via this pane, since the pane is shared. The Variable Explorer provides an easy way for you to see what variables are defined based on the object that has been selected in the Object Navigation pane. If you select a Job or Plan in the tree, you will see a list of variables defined on the selected object (if any) and you will also see variables within the selected object's path, all the way up to the Job Scheduler’s root. The Variable Explorer allows you to search the list for a specific variable, find all references of a variable, move, copy to, rename, and delete variables, and lastly, show all the details of a selected variable in the list (e.g. its description).

The Tags Pane is accessed via the Open/Close Panes UI option. By default, it is tabbed alongside any other open options that are accessed via this pane, since the pane is shared. The Tags feature provides an easy way for you to catalog or associate one or more look-up tags with an object. As an example, you may have some Jobs and/or Plans that you consider critical. They could be scattered about in the Object Navigation pane, located in various Folders. If you tag the objects with a "critical" tag that you create, you can then use the Tags tab to "View Objects that are tagged with the selected tags", which will pull up a list of Tagged Objects in the Main view. This allows you to see your tagged objects all in one place.

The Templates Pane is accessed via the Open/Close Panes UI option. By default, it is tabbed alongside any other open options that are accessed via this pane, since the pane is shared. This pane displays a list of Jobs Library Job Step Templates that have been created (if any). Job Step Templates are created using features in the Jobs LibraryClosed The Jobs Library is a type of Job. The Jobs Library consists of production-ready built-in Job Steps that perform various tasks that many customers use and/or need. For example, there are File System Job Steps that allow a user to manage files and directories (copy, rename, delete, etc.) on a target OS system. There are managed file transfer (MFT) Job Steps that allow a user to upload and download files using FTP, SFTP and FTPS. The Job Steps provide a script-less approach to building jobs and workflows. A Job Author enters the various Job Step properties, and ActiveBatch executes the tried and proved code to accomplish the task. Steps Editor. A Job Step Template is a Job Step that is frequently used, where the Step properties have been preset with hard-coded values and/or variables. Using this tab, Templates can be dragged and dropped onto the Jobs Library Steps Editor when adding or editing the Steps. In addition, Templates can be managed using features in this pane, which include moving, renaming and deleting Templates.
